Resumen
No Brasil, pouco se sabe sobre como e em que medida as uniões e o nascimento dos filhos estão associados à saúde masculina ou vice-versa. O presente artigo visa identificar mecanismos pelos quais os eventos ligados à formação de família atuam na transformação ou manutenção de comportamentos de saúde (alimentação, consumo excessivo de bebida alcoólica, tabagismo e direção perigosa) de homens de 25 a 39 anos, além de identificar agentes de regulação e controle na saúde desses homens. Foram realizadas 20 entrevistas em profundidade no município de Belo Horizonte-MG com indivíduos unidos, com e sem filhos, estratificados por escolaridade e Índice de Qualidade de Vida Urbana do local de residência. O suporte instrumental e a perspectiva normativa dos papéis sociais foram os principais mecanismos observados. No que tange aos agentes reguladores, a atuação das sogras e a religião mostraram-se especialmente relevantes para a adoção de hábitos mais saudáveis.
