Abstract

Economic, political and cultural transformations which have been experienced by Argentinian society since the late nineteenth century are particularly relevant to observe the composition of the marriage market of its population. In analyzing the 1910 to 2015 period, we find major changes in the composition of the marriage market and marriage patterns of the City of Buenos Aires. The effects of international migration are also analyzed. The sources used are vital statistics, population censuses and household surveys of the city. The results show that in the last century, the composition of the marriage market has changed in Buenos Aires society. The option of living together as a couple remains valid, but the ways of establishing it changed.
