Abstract
This study presents the characteristics of three population profiles of people with disabilities and/or dependency. Socio-demographic information was collected and standardised instruments to measure disability, dependency and family vulnerability associated with this situation were applied to residents in private households in Uruguay. The principal component analysis method was applied to create typologies from this information in order to describe their health situation. The results highlight a possible continuity between the profiles as they age and that the possibility of successful ageing of people with disabilities depends on the intervention and approach in childhood, youth and adulthood.
