Abstract

This research reviews the age profiles of current household savings in Mexico depending on access condition to medical services by the job. The study is based on an analysis of synthetic cohorts to analyze the current saving behavior along the life cycle. The database used is the National Household Income and Expenditure Survey (enigh) for 1994 to 2012 and ten synthetic cohorts are built. The results show that the age profile of saving rate no describe an inverted U-shaped as illustrated by the Life Cycle Hypothesis. Moreover. among those who work and have no access to medical services. saving rates are always smaller and negative at the beginning of life.
