Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explore the relationship between Latin American and Caribbean skilled migration to the United States, with the remittances’ flow to countries of origin of migrants. The paper presents a review of the literature on this subject, and a description of the sociodemographic and economic characteristics of skilled migrants’ households, particularly if they send money, and their educational level. It also summarizes some results of various statistical models developed with data from the Current Population Survey of the United States, 2008. The paper suggests that it is not possible to draw conclusions about the link between skilled migration and remittances, since it is a field of knowledge that, depending on the type of information and methods employed, provides results in different directions.
