Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of lack of sanitation services, socio-economic factors and environmental factors that, by them- selves or in combination, increase the risk of suffering from diarrhea in the population of Conurbano Bonaerense, one of the areas most densely populated areas of Argentina and one of the eleven largest urban conglomerates in the world. The effects are measured by using primary data obtained through an ad-hoc survey and estimating a series of nested logistic models. These results suggest the existence of a strong synergistic effect between lack of sanitation, social vulnerability and environmental degradation on the risk of suffering of diarrhea. The education level of household head and proximity to dumps, by themselves and in combination with the lack of sanitation services, would be the most important factors.
