Abstract
Based on the rights listed in the Inter-American Convention on Protecting the Human Rights of Older Persons and with data from the Living Conditions Survey of Older Adults carried out in Argentina in 2012, we estimated a synthetic indicator of rights deprivation, which is then combined with monetary poverty. This study examines some factors associated with both phenomena (monetary poverty and rights deprivations), finding that each of them has its own determinants and requires different and specific responses from public policy. Non-monetary deprivation affects 53 % of the elderly in Argentina, almost five times more than the 11 % in the whole population. Differences by gender are also analyzed, observing that some determinants are more important than others depending on whether the older person is a man or a woman.
