Abstract

This article analyzes the trends of skilled labor participation and labor security among Colombian immigrants with university education in the United States over the last two decades and examines the effect the country of study has on employment. and the areas of formation. The results indicate that the highest volume of skilled Colombian immigrants in the United States were registered during between 1999-2003, and that semi-skilled employment opportunities have been predominantly granted to this group. Moreover, this study has shown that professional training in the United States and in science, technology and innovation fields are conditional factors for participating in highly-skilled employment that provides medical insurance.
