Abstract

The objective of this article is to estimate the association between social vulnerability and functional dependence in a sample of Mexican adults aged 60 and over in 2012. By means of ordinal logistic regression models, the association is estimated between three dimensions of variables related to social vulnerability (individual, social and programmatic), and various categories of functional dependence, evaluated as limitations in Activities of Daily Living (adl’s). The results indicate that the factors associated with being more likely to present some degree of functional dependence among both men and women at advanced age (70 years and over) are: having multi-morbidity, no schooling, and being dissatisfied with support and social resources. In conclusion, Mexican elderly adults with social vulnerability are more likely to have some degree of functional dependence.
